Introducing · Mirror · MMXXVI

A diagnostic, before the diagnosis.

Mirror is the system the Maison uses for every consultation. Twenty-two minutes, one hundred and ninety-two anatomical points, two physicians in council, and a reading you take home in writing.

A short argument

Aesthetic medicine has, for too long, asked the artist's question — what would look better? — when, in fact, it also ought to ask the engineer's: what does the tissue, measurably, require?

Mirror is what we built the practice around so we could, every time, answer both.

The reading

Four movements,
one quiet hour.

Every reading at the Maison observes the same four movements. The same diagnostic, the same council, the same letter taken home — whether you visit once a year or once a decade.

Movement I

The capture.

A single photograph of the face in profile, taken on the Maison's calibrated tablet under the consultation room's neutral daylight. We do not retouch. We do not pose. The tablet does the work that, until 2024, three different instruments did imperfectly.

Movement II

The mesh.

One hundred and ninety-two anatomical points are then mapped across the face — brow, eye, malar, jaw, chin — with twelve harmony vectors and three asymmetry indices calculated against a reference range. The mesh is not the diagnosis. It is its alphabet.

192 points · 12 vectors · 3 indices

Movement III

The council.

Mirror proposes; the council decides. Every reading is reviewed in writing by two physicians of the house — Dr Aboulafia and a senior colleague — before any plan is offered. They will, on a Tuesday, sit with the reading on the table between them and quietly disagree until they don't.

Twin sign-off · never alone · never the diagnostic itself

Movement IV

The plan.

A short letter, printed and signed: what to do, what may wait, and — often — what shall not be done at all. The plan is yours to take home, consider for as long as you wish, and return to. Nothing in it obligates a visit. We expect, and welcome, patients who read once and decline.

The artefact

A reading, specimen.

What you take home, in its entirety. No login, no app, no second visit required to retrieve it.

The council

Two physicians, every reading.

No reading is offered to a patient until both physicians have reviewed it in writing. Mirror proposes; the council decides; the patient takes the letter home.

A letter from the founder

On Mirror.

I spent the better part of two years, after Royal College and before opening the Maison, trying to build my own diagnostic. I gave up — not because the problem was unsolvable, but because someone else had already solved it. Mirror, by ClearPath, is what every careful clinic in the country ought to be running.

It is, here at the Maison, the only diagnostic we use. We have no commercial relationship with ClearPath beyond being one of their clinics, and we are not paid to recommend them. We are recommending them because, if you sit in this chair, you should know.

Mirror does not, ever, decide. It proposes. The council decides. The patient takes the letter home, and decides again.
